Academic Senate

The Academic Senate is the highest collegial authority. It meets at least once each year.

The members of the Senate are: Fr Adolfo Nicolás (Chancellor), Fr Edward Muduvassery (Vice-Chancellor), Archbishop Vincent Concessao (Patron), John M Ariapilly (Representative, Jesuit Conference of South Asia), Fr Joeseph Sebastien (Rector), Fr Francis Gonsalves (Principal), Fr George Stephen (Registrar), Fr Desiderio Pinto (representative of the teaching staff elected in February 2006), Fr Francis Gonsalves (representative of the teaching staff elected in February 2008), Fr George Praseed (representative from the Regional Centre, elected in February 2007), Fr Tom Chillikulam (representative from the Regional Centre elected in February 2008), Dr George Mathew and Mr Innocent Xess (both nominated by the Vice-Chancellor), and two elected student representatives, and a woman student, additionally nominated, if necessary.

Academic Council

The Faculty is governed in its normal life by the Academic Council convoked and presided over by the Principal. The Academic Council consists of: (a) All Professors, Readers, Lecturers and Tutors who are permanent members of the Staff; (b) The Rector of Vidyajyoti; (c) The Registrar; (d) Associate and Visiting teachers during their stay at the centre; (e) Three representatives of the BTh students as well as one representative of the postgraduate students for matters especially concerning the order of studies and other matters affecting the academic life and interests of the students. If there is no woman representative among those elected, the Principal in consultation with Executive Council will nominate one. The students of each Regional Centre elect one representative. The Treasurer, Administrator and Librarian, unless they are otherwise members of the Council, may be called whenever found opportune.

The Academic Council meets at least once a Semester. It can be convoked whenever the Executive Committee decides to hold it or a third of the Academic Council requests a meeting in writing.

Executive Committee

To assist the Principal in the administration of the Faculty, the Academic Council will elect an Executive Committee of four teaching members for a term of three years. The present members are: Fr Francis Gonsalves, Fr Leonard Fernando, Sr Shalini Mulackal and Fr George Keerankeri. The Registrar will be an ex-officio member. The Committee is responsible to the Academic Council. The Committee will meet about once a month during the academic year. The meeting of the Committee is presided over by the Principal.

Students’ Council

The Students’ Council is made up of: (a) the student representatives of the Senate and the Academic Council; (b) the class beadles and other functionaries elected annually by the student body. They are responsible for student concerns and the promotion of student activities. They are intended to foster a continuous dialogue among the students, staff and the administration. They meet regularly by themselves or with the Principal.
